Q: What Activity does 95% of the Online Population do?

A: Search.

From a press release from comScore

RESTON, VA, October 10, 2007 – comScore, Inc.  (NASDAQ: SCOR), a leader in measuring the digital world, today released the first comprehensive study of worldwide search activity, based on data from its qSearch 2.0 service. comScore qSearch 2.0 offers the first panoramic worldwide view of online search activity, providing granular, in-depth analysis of the search universe reported from the top 50 worldwide Internet properties where search activity is observed. The study found that more than 750 million people age 15 and older – or 95 percent of the worldwide Internet audience – conducted 61 billion searches worldwide in August, an average of more than 80 searches per searcher.

Another question: If 95% of the online population is averaging 80 searches per month, where should you move your marketing dollars?

Fundamentals: Keyword Research

My high school volleyball coach always used to say, "it's all about fundamentals." He said it so often that to this day, I can still hear it in my head like he is standing in front of me.

While search has many exciting frontiers, at its core is a single fundamental: keyword research. I have written about keyword research several times here, I wanted to draw attention to Julie Batten's article over at ClickZ. It's called Effective Keyword SEO Research.

It's a great reminder of the core offering of SEO, or a great introduction to those wanting to learn.

Target Selling Boeing 787s Online

Yesterday, Boeing announced it was going to delay the delivery of the first round of 787 Dreamliners by 6 months. The list price of this plane is around $146 million dollars.

So I was a little surprised when it appeared that Target was selling 787 Dreamliner's on their web site. At least, that is what their PPC ad on Google appears to claim.

Slate.com: Google's Evil Eye

I love Slate. And from time-to-time they write critical views of Google, when few other media outlets dare to.

Slate is now questioning a consumer right to privacy in regards to Google and the data they capture.
